Increasingly artists are creating their own interpretations of films with inventive posters independently of the studio releasing the film. These posters can often be superior to the originals and are almost always worth checking out for their original take on a film's story and content

Prometheus by Matt Needle

I don’t neccessarily think I like this poster more than the original (see below) but it gives me an excuse to blog about this movie. Prometheus, directed by Ridley Scott, has been described by those involved as not quite a prequel to Alien. It takes place in the same world, but apparently is only tangentially related. That’s fine by me. I just recently saw Alien for the first time and I’m hungry for any outer-space goodness Ridley wants to throw my way. Also, the trailers look INCREDIBLE.

I do like how in the above poster, the sense of mystery the characters face when trying to find intelligent life is reflected in this poster with few visual signifiers and details. On the other hand, the original poster has a sense of something mysterious and a feeling of epicness created by the astronaut that is dwarfed by the statue. The tagline kinda takes some of the wind out of its sails though.
